Tour Description

Vienna offers a very diverse culinary scene ranging from delicious sausage stands, traditional coffee houses to schnitzel restaurants that have become institutions.  The culinary tour will provide a peek into Austrian history and an exploration of traditional Viennese food.

Your tour will begin at a famous Viennese coffee house; it is natural place for a good start of the day. A traditional coffee house in Vienna is quite different to what you may have experienced elsewhere in the world. It is no wonder that the UNESCO lists the Viennese coffee house culture as an Intangible Cultural Heritage.  Many traditional coffee houses date back to the 1800s, they are places where time and space are consumed, but only the coffee is found on the bill.

After your coffee house visit you will go to see the Sacher Hotel and the Albertina museum. You will also see the Monument against War and Fascism and learn about the Second World War in Vienna.

Then, you will make a stop at the Bitzinger Sausage stand, which is widely known to be serving the best sausages in Vienna. You will sample a variety of their sausages accompanies by Austrian beer or a local non-alcoholic beverage.

You will then walk to the St. Stephen's cathedral to explore it in detail. Freeze in awe in front of the majestic gothic structure with it's great South Tower and the roof covered with 230.000 glazed tiles.  Many consider the interior of the church as the world´s most stunning.

Then your guide will show you the amazing area behind the cathedral with its narrow streets and hidden courtyards.  You will here see the house where Mozart wrote his famous opera "The Marriage of Figaro" and marvel at the typical “Pawlatschen” access balconies!

Across the famous Graben Street you arrive at the plague column, a unique masterpiece from the baroque era. Take a quick glimpse into the marvelous church of St. Peter with your guide. If you're lucky you might hear the organ being played. Then you will walk along the Kohlmarkt, Vienna's most elegant shopping street.

We will enter the Demel confectionery, which was established in 1786. You will taste chocolates and pastries fit for royalty. It is no wonder why Demel was chosen as a Purveyor to the Imperial and Royal Court

Then you will visit the elegant Julius Meinl am Graben which is a culinary masterpiece of fine arts and Austria´s first address for gourmets.

We will end out tour at the famous Naschmarkt where we taste a variety of Austrian cheese and locally produced vinegar.
