Tour Description
Your private guide will pick you up at your hotel in a Mercedes limousine/van or Tesla. Your tour vehicle offers extra large windows and plenty of space.
You will begin your journey by driving to the local wine taverns in Grinzing. The locals often refer to this picturesque area of Vienna as a village because it looks like it is right out of a fairy tale. Your guide will take you on a walking tour to discover more about the architecture and attention to detail in the buildings. Grinzing is an excellent place to experience the Austrian way of life in the smaller villages.
You can have lunch in on of the many wine taverns. Grinzing is famous for it´s wineries that are called Heuriger. The word Heuriger means from this year and relates to the young wine vintners are selling. It also relates to the seasonal wine taverns that many vintners have been running since more than 220 years. The wine that the owner of the wine tavern proposes is most of the time a wine produced by them. That's why the wine taverns are located at the periphery of Vienna among woods and vineyards.
Your guide is able to recommend and explain to you the traditional dishes and recommend which young local wine to sample. You will be delighted by the wine taverns and enjoy the grapevines hanging over your head. It’s far more than just nourishment: Austrians love tavern life for its carefree attitudes and sense of community.
After lunch you will drive to the Vienna Woods. About 10 years ago the UNESCO included the Vienna Woods on the Biosphere Reserve list – a designation for areas with a special cultural and natural landscape. You will visit the hills of Kahlenberg and Leopoldsberg.
These are both popular local weekend spots. On top, they will give you a wonderful view of the river Danube, and Vienna’s skyline. The paths are all paved, so no need to bring heavy hiking gear.
Your guide will show you the Stefaniewarte, situated almost 300 meters above the Danube, offers a fantastic view over the Vienna basin, the hills of the Vienna woods and the Danube valley. This 22 meter-tall viewing tower was built in 1887 and named after Crown Princess Stefanie of Belgium. Just below the summit stands the Baroque St. Joseph's Church, whose black Madonna made it a popular pilgrimage church.
You will be driven back to you hotel where your tour will end.
