The best way to discover the Jewish history of Vienna is on foot with our enthusiastic guides. You will begin the tour at the Monument against War and Fascism, which depicts the suffering, pain and humiliation as consequences of fascism, war and anti-Semitism.

 

Your guide will tell you about the most famous members of he Viennese Jewish community like Gustav Mahler, Arthur Schnitzler, Sigmund Freud or Theodor Herzl.

 

Then you will walk through the Jewish Textile Quarter and get to see the monument that honors the Jewish residents of Vienna who were imprisoned by the Gestapo (the German Nazi Secret Police) during the World War II.

 

You will continue your tour to see the Stadttempel Synagogue – the only one that survived World War II out of the 94 synagogues that existed in Vienna in 1930s.  Today it is the main house of prayer for the Viennese Jewish Community of about 7,000 members.

 

We will finish our tour on the Judenplatz where you will see the memorial to the 65,000 murdered Austrian Jews in the Shoah. At Judenplatz there is also a Jewish Museum, which you can visit after the tour on your own.
